The estate vineyards of Schloss Salenegg are nested in the foothills of the Falknis.
This mountain is characteristic of the region, it protects the vines from the cold north winds creating a microclimate in which the vines enjoy growing. Together with the slate soil the area has a distinctive terroir - the "Salenegger" wines.
Schloss Salenegg could be one of Europe’s oldest modern wineries. Set up in 950 AD by the Abbots of Pfäfers monastery, wine was made there from the beginning. It’s also effortlessly pretty, a Baroque Castle surrounded by the Alps.
